Producer & Mix- Recording Engineer
I'm Dirk Wolf, an Abbey Road Institute graduate and freelance audio engineer specialising in band-based music. My goal is to convey each artist's artistic vision using any creative tool available.
What I do
A second pair of ears that clears the brain fog. I work with the artist on arrangement, performance and sound, without taking over the song. It remains true to the artist's musical vision.
Moving a microphone a few inches changes everything. I take the time for placement, source and room, so the mix never turns into a rescue operation.
Punchy, warm, aggressive or restrained: whatever the song needs. EQ, compression, saturation and reverb until everything becomes one thing instead of loose parts.

My sound
Punchy and clear, but also natural and dynamic. Guitars are loud when the song asks for it and soft when that works better. When I record a band I deliberately use the sound of the room: all the punch and definition from the close mics, all the character from the room mics.
Dry and tight seventies, clean pop, or aggressive metal drums — it's all possible, as long as you make the right calls at the source. And I love layers: doubling guitars and vocals until a song truly stands up.
I'm known for indie and rock, but I produce any genre. A clean pop production with samples, tuned vocals and lo-fi beats is just as much fun as a band playing live in one room.

Process
Send a demo, a live recording or even a voice memo. We talk through what you want to achieve and what budget fits. I'll be honest about what is and isn't possible.
Before we record a single note we look at tempo, key, structure and arrangement. This is the cheapest place to make a song better.
Drums first, in the room, with close and room mics. Then bass, guitars, keys and vocals. I work in takes where the performance leads — not the grid.
The best takes together, tight where it should be tight, loose where it should breathe. Tuning and timing always serve the feel.
Everything comes together: balance, depth, width and punch. You get a mix, you give feedback, and we fine-tune until it's right.
Master-ready or mastered files in the formats you need for Spotify, vinyl or sync — including a tidy file structure for later.
Own band
I'm not only behind the desk. As frontman of MONOWOLF I'm on stage myself — an alt-rock duo in which I play bass, guitar and vocals at the same time on a converted guitar, with Rens Bult on drums.
That makes me a better producer. I know how it feels to hand your own song to someone else, how heavy a tracking day is, and why a band wants it to work live too.
